Times of Strife – The conflict ridden 18th century in the archipelago

Exhibition hall, 2nd floor

From September to March you are welcome to visit our exhibitions on the first Saturday of every month. All our exibitions are free of charge. By opening our exhibitions outside of the summer season, we take part in the “Weekends in Creative Korpo”-events. We can also open the exhibitions to pre-booked groups, as long as you let us know well in advance that you want to visit.

Times of Strife

The exhibition brings to attention the harsh reality of the 18th century in the archipelago, the lives of boatswains and their families, famine, diseases and war, a time when survival was uncertain and death and misery were constant companions. Stories pertaining to the historic Seabattle of Korpoström in 1743 will also be presented in the exhibition.

Historic objects from various places in the archipelago and from museums in Sweden and Finland will be displayed in the archipelago center Korpoström. A film about Carin Pehrsdotter by Lotta Petronella is displayed in connection to the exhibition.

The exhibition is part of the Central Baltic project DefenceArch.
