The Archipelago Center Korpoström is a visitor center for science, nature, art, and culture with the mission to “address the human relationship with nature in the archipelago – both historically and in the present and future – and to convey the archipelago and its uniqueness to visitors.” The Archipelago Centre works interdisciplinary to create exhibitions and events with interesting perspectives on archipelago-specific issues and phenomena. Those who collaborate include researchers, artists, cultural workers, volunteers, and experts. The Åboland Archipelago Foundation is the majority owner of the Archipelago Center, holding approximately 78% of the shares. Other shareholders include Metsähallitus (Finnish Forest and Park Services) and the municipality of Pargas.
The Pro Artibus Foundation’s residency program at the Archipelago Centre Korpoström is organized in collaboration with the Åbo Akademi marine biological research station. The purpose of the residence is to link environmental and marine research with art. The artist has a workroom at the Archipelago Centre and a residence in Lillstugan next to the centre. The residency period is six months and is aimed for Swedish-speaking professional artists and curators working in Finland within the visual arts.
